Welcome WPHS Class of '61!

Hi classmates. I have always had great memories of our class so I saved quite a bit of material and thought I'd share it with all of you. I have the complete set of all issues of The Orange published in our sophomore, junior, and senior years, which will no doubt bring back many memories of school, White Plains, and life in a much simpler America in the 1950s.

As some of you might remember, in addition to The Orange, there was also a small newspaper for Sopomores, The Newcomer. I have some issues of that, as well.

I also have the never-before-published senior Skit. As you may remember, it was a tradition for the seniors to write and put on a satirical play about the school. We did this, too, but just before it was to be presented, the principal, Dr. C. Darl Long, cancelled it, which led to quite an uproar. The entire script as originally written is now available here for the first time.

Some issues of our literary magazine, Roar, are also here, along with other artifacts from around 1960 I didn't scan the yearbook, The Oracle, since I assume everyone has guarded that treasure carefully.

Probably some of you have other artifacts that I don't have. If you could scan them at 300 dpi and send them to me, I can add them to the collection.

Most of the documents on this Website are in PDF format. To view them you need to get an install the (free) Adobe Reader (formerly called Acrobat). All the PDF files were scanned at high resolution, suitable for quality printing. As a consequence, downloads may take several minutes, even though this Website is being hosted at a very large commercial data center near Albany with extremely fast outgoing lines.

Below is what Google thinks WPHS looks like now. You can put the mouse on it and drag it around. Double click to zoom.

Post Road Junior High School

Many members of the class of '61 came from Post Road Junior High. Here are some goodies for Post Roaders. Non-Post-Roaders may also be interested in seeing 9th grade photos of their Post Road friends.
