National Honor Society Induction Ceremony 1961

The National Honor Society was established in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor high school students who, in its words, "have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character." Students can be inducted in either their junior or senior years. For the class of 1961, 20 girls and 11 boys were inducted as juniors and an additional 14 girls and 9 boys were inducted as seniors, for a total of 44 students out of a class of about 900. The induction ceremony was held Feb. 8, 1961 in the evening in the new school auditorium. The program for the ceremony and list of inductees is in the booklet below.
